CPSC, BJ Alan Co. Announce Recall of Mammoth Smoke Fountain Fireworks

The following product safety recall was conducted voluntarily by the firm in cooperation with the CPSC. Customers should stop using the product immediately unless otherwise instructed.

Name of Product: Mammoth Smoke Fountain

Units: About 3,000

Distributor/Manufacturer: BJ Alan Co., of Youngstown, Ohio

Hazard: The device can unexpectedly propel on the ground or unintentionally explode during use, posing a risk of burn injuries to consumers.

Incidents/Injuries: BJ Alan Co. has received two reports of incidents in which the product propelled on ground or exploded. One incident resulted in a minor burn to a consumer's foot.

Description: The products are smoke-producing novelty devices packaged in a 4.5-inch long cylindrical tube. "MAMMOTH SMOKE" is written on the side of the devices in blue and yellow. They were sold in sets with other types of fireworks.

Sold at: Fireworks stands and stores nationwide from April 2003 through June 2005. The Phantom variety pack sold for about $6 and the Storm Chaser assortment tray sold for about $17.

Manufactured in: China

Remedy: Consumers should immediately stop using the product and contact BJ Alan Co. for a replacement product.
