Bernard Chaus, Inc. Recalls Ladies Active Sweatshirts

WASHINGTON, D.C. -- The U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission and Bernard Chaus, Inc., Secaucus, New Jersey, today announced a Voluntary recall of Ladies active sweatshirts sold by the firm. Approximately 16,000 units were imported from Sri Lanka and sold nation wide. The sweatshirts are identified as being styles 45F70, 54507 and 65402 and the firm has agreed to provide a full refund to consumers who return the sweatshirts to the retail stores where they were purchased.

Although these sweatshirts have not been involved in any incidents known to the Commission or the Chaus, Inc. testing shows that the sweatshirts fail to meet the flammability requirement for general wearing apparel before and after washing.

The recalled Ladies active sweatshirts were made in Sri Lanka of 100% cotton with a neck label tag "CHAUS RN 51323". The sweatshirts were sold for $30.00 to $40.00 from August 1984 through February 1985.

For further information, consumers may contact Ms. Tania Anhorniak, Customer Service, Bernard Chaus, Inc. at 201-863-4646 or the Commission's Toll Free Hotline at 800-638-CPSC. A teletypewriter number for the hearing-impaired is (301) 595-7054.
