CPSC, Evercel Announce Recall of Nickel Zinc Battery Chargers
PRODUCT: Battery Chargers - Evercel Inc., of Hingham, Mass., is voluntarily recalling about 460 battery chargers for certain Evercel Nickel Zinc batteries often used with boat trolling motors. These Everplore-model M100-12V-12.5A-110 chargers have a blue plastic enclosure and measure 5.5-inches wide, 10.5-inches long and 3-inches thick. "EVERPLORE" and Ni-Zn Battery Charger" are written on a blue and white label on the front of the units. Cabella's mail order catalogs and web site sold these battery chargers as part of their Evercel Model MOD100-7C Trolling Battery system from August 2002 through September 2002 for about $299
PROBLEM: Internal electrical components of the battery chargers can overheat, posing a fire hazard.
INCIDENTS/INJURIES: There have been three reports of these battery chargers overheating and melting, causing minor property damage. No injuries have been reported.
WHAT TO DO: Consumers should stop using these battery chargers immediately and contact Evercel collect at (781) 740-1312 between 9 a.m. and 5 p.m. ET Monday through Friday for information on returning the chargers for a free replacement.
