Metal Charms Recalled for Lead Poisoning Hazard to Children
WASHINGTON, D.C. - The U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission, in cooperation with the firm named below, today announced a voluntary recall of the following consumer product. Consumers should stop using recalled products immediately unless otherwise instructed.Name of Product: Art Accentz™ Changlz™ Metal Charms
Units: About 29,000
Importer: Provo Craft & Novelty Inc., of Spanish Fork, Utah.
Hazard: The recalled charms contain high levels of lead, posing a serious risk of lead poisoning and adverse health effects to young children.
Incidents/Injuries: No incidents or injuries have been reported with the recalled charms.
Description: The charms are small silver-colored metal shapes that include flowers, bugs, pumpkins, and picture frames. "Art Accentz," "Changlz," "Provo Craft," and "For ages 3 and over" are printed on the charm's packaging. The charms were sold as decorations for craft projects such as scrapbooks, home décor and jewelry making.
Sold at: Small craft and scrapbook retails outlets from April 2004 through July 2005, and at Pamida Stores from January 2005 through April 2005, for about $3.
Manufactured in: China.
Remedy: Consumers should immediately take the charms away from children and ensure any charms being used are not accessible to children. Call Provo Craft for a full refund.
