Recalls: Dressers, Desks, Chests and Buffets

This recall involves Bow Front chests of drawers from the Vanguard Furniture Compendium Collection. The eight-drawer beech-wood chests have primavera veneers and are finished in a variety of custom colors. The chests weigh 250 pounds and measure 36 inches high by 20 inches deep by 75 inches wide. This recall involves the Audrey lingerie chest in the white smoke color with item number AMH6584A. The item number is printed on a tag that is included in the product's original box. The recalled chests have one drawer and one door below the drawer. The chests measure about 18 inches wide by 15 inches deep by 30 inches high. Read more.

This recall involves Pier 1 Imports glass knobs commonly used with dressers, cabinets and small drawers. The decorative glass knobs have a metal stem affixed to one side and were sold in 26 styles. Read more.

This recall involves Artisan, Bellevue, Holden and Stratford style six-drawer bedroom chests of drawers. The pine wood chests are stained medium auburn brown, weigh 77 pounds and measure 36 inches high by 36 inches wide. Warning labels can be found on the back of the chests, near the top of the unit. This recall involves Summer Breeze style 5-drawer chest of drawers sold in cherry wood. Model number 3746035 is printed on a label affixed to the back of the chest and on the assembly guide. The chests measure 44 inches high by 31 inches wide and 16 inches deep and weigh 88 pounds. Read more.

This recall involves Bolton Furniture two over two style 4-drawer dressers. Models included in the recall are Cambridge 8614, Emma 8314, Essex 6614, Wakefield 8014 and Woodridge 8414. The dressers were sold in cherry, chestnut, espresso, honey, ivory, natural, and white. Model names and numbers can be found on the QC/production sticker located on back of the dresser. Read more.

This recall involves Cynthia style 5-drawer dressers. The dressers measure 40.25 inches tall by 17 inches wide by 13.5 inches deep, and were sold in a cream color. Read more.

The recalled children's chests and dressers are taller than 23.5 inches and adult chests and dressers are taller than 29.5 inches. The 29 million units of recalled chests and dressers include: MALM 3-drawer, 4-drawer, 5-drawer and three 6-drawer models and other children's and adult chests and dressers. The MALM chests and dressers are constructed of particleboard or fiberboard and are white, birch (veneer), medium brown, black-brown, white stained oak (veneer), oak (veneer), pink, turquoise, gray, gray-turquoise, lilac, green, brown stained ash (veneer), and black. A 5-digit supplier number, 4-digit date stamp, IKEA logo, country of origin and "MALM" are printed on the underside of the top panel or inside the side panel. Since 1996, IKEA chests and dressers have been labeled to identify IKEA, the model name and the manufacturing date. Read more.

This recall involves Bestar Dream Dressers. The dressers are juvenile five-drawer dressers sold as part of the Juvenil four-piece children's bedroom set. The dressers were sold in the colors brown and white. The dressers are 48 inches high, 30 inches wide and 16 inches deep, and weigh about 108 lbs. They have a melamine resin surface and the drawer handles have a matte chrome finish. The brown dresser is model number 49250-1152 and the white dresser is model number 49250-1117. The model number is on the box and the brochure. Both dressers have UPC number 063753045292 on the box and the brochure. Read more.

WASHINGTON, D.C. – The U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC), in cooperation with Bexco Enterprises Inc., dba Million Dollar Baby of Montebello, Calif. is announcing a voluntary recall of 18,000 children's four-drawer dressers. When a young child climbs up on open dresser drawers, the dresser becomes unstable and poses the risk of tip over and entrapment. CPSC and Million Dollar Baby have received two reports of deaths associated with these dressers. An 11-month-old boy from Tulsa, Okla. and a 20-month-old girl from Camarillo, Calif. were reported to have suffocated when their dressers tipped over, entrapping them between the dresser and the floor. The cause of the deaths has not been determined.

This voluntary recall involves "Emily" style four-drawer dressers with model numbers M4712, M4722, M4732 and M4742 and similar "Ryan" dressers with the model M4733. The dressers were sold in five finishes: Cherry, Ebony, Espresso, Honey Oak and White. The model number, "Million Dollar Baby" and "MADE IN TAIWAN" are printed on a label located on the back of the dresser. The recalled dresser measures 33-inches high by 20-inches deep by 40-inches wide and is a part of the DaVinci children's bedroom furniture collection. The dressers are made from pine and wood composite.

The recalled dressers were sold at JCPenney and independent juvenile specialty stores nationwide and online at Amazon.com, BabiesRUs.com, BabyUniverse.com and other online retailers from January 2006 through June 2010 for between $230 and $300.

The Million Dollar Baby dressers met applicable voluntary standards when first produced, but a May 2009 voluntary industry standard, and subsequent revisions published in October 2009 and November 2009, requires that tip-over restraints be sold with the dressers. The restraints attach to a wall, framing or other support to help prevent dresser tip-over entrapment hazards to young children. Million Dollar Baby is offering free retrofit kits with tip-over restraints to consumers who have older dressers. Included in the kit is an adhesive warning label that consumers are to attach to the dresser, which describes how to prevent tip-over injuries.

The dressers were manufactured in Taiwan and the USA.

Consumers should immediately stop using and keep the dresser out of a child's reach. Consumers can contact Million Dollar Baby to receive a free retrofit kit that contains a wall anchor strap, which attaches to the dresser and wall to help prevent the dresser from tipping.
