December 15, 2009 Strangulation Death of a Child Prompts Recall to Repair Roman Shades by All Strong Industry

This recall involves Roman shades distributed by All Strong Industry that are made of a white-on-white striped fabric and measure about 64 inches long and the width ranges between 23 and 39 inches. The head rail has a strangulation warning and a label stating “CF" (Ching Feng Fashion Home Fashions Co., Ltd.), “52% Cotton/48% Polyester”, and made in either Taiwan, Thailand or China. “RN 103984” is printed on another sewn-in tag near the bottom back side of the fabric. October 27, 2009 Near Strangulation of Children Prompts Recall of Roman Shades by Louis Hornick & Co.; Sold Exclusively at Bed Bath & Beyond

This recall includes all sizes and colors of Dublin Energy Solution Roman Shades sold by Bed Bath & Beyond with exposed inner cords on the back. Colors include navy, chocolate, khaki and cream. On the backside of the head rail, a small orange, black and white warning label sticker in English and Spanish which read in part, “Cords and bead chains can loop around child’s neck and STRANGLE. October 27, 2009 Near Strangulation of Child Prompts Recall of Roman Shades by Whole Space; Sold Exclusively by Hanover Direct/Domestications

This recall involves all Faux Suede room darkening Roman shades with style number 12810A. The shades were sold in Ivory, Taupe, Gold, Plum, Wine Red, Midnight Blue, Moss Green and Dark Brown and have a head rail that measures 23, 27, 31, 35, 39 43 or 48 inches. The shades have a sticker on the head rail with the letters “WS” and “style 12810A” is printed on the packaging box. Read more.

This recall involves all ISDANS, TUPPLUR and ENJE roller blinds. These blinds are made of a solid or sheer fabric, measuring 24” to 79” wide, and have a metal top rail and a bead chain. ENJE has a glued label on the wall fitting showing the IKEA logotype, article number, 5-digit supplier number, four digit date stamp (YYWW) and "Made in Taiwan". The roller blinds have an orange warning label attached at the base of the blind that is marked with AA-136800-3. Read more.


August 26, 2009 Near Strangulation Prompts Recall of Roman Blinds; Sold Exclusively at IKEA

This recall includes all sizes/colors of MELINA Roman blinds. These blinds have a sewn-in label at the top edge of the blind with the IKEA logotype, article name (MELINA), 5-digit supplier number 19395, four digit date stamp (YYWW) and the words “Made in Taiwan”. On the bottom edge of the blind there is a sewn-in orange/white safety warning label. The blinds are made from 100% polyester. Read more.


August 26, 2009 Strangulation Deaths of Children Prompt Recall to Repair of Roll-Up Blinds and Roman Shades by Lewis Hyman Inc.

This recall involves roll-up blinds without release clips (see picture below) and all Woolrich Roman shades. The roll-up blinds have plastic oval-shaped slats that measure about ¼ inch tall. The blinds measure either 72” or 96” long. The bottom rail has a WARNING label advising that “Young children can become entangled and strangle in cord or bead loops” and a label that reads “Lewis Hyman, Inc.” and the year of manufacture. Roll-up blinds that have release clips right below the head rail on the backside of the blind are not included in this recall. The Woolrich Roman shades come in twill fabric and micro-suede fabric and measure 72” long. The head rail has two labels that read “Lewis Hyman, Inc., www.lewishymaninc.com” and “LHI, 005301, Made in China” respectively. Read more.

This recall involves all sizes and colors of Pottery Barn Kids roman shades with exposed inner cords on the back. Two sewn-in labels are located at the bottom edge of the shade. The smaller label identifies the manufacturer as “pottery barn kids” while the second larger orange, black and white label warns that “Cords and bead chains can loop around child’s neck and STRANGLE.” Roman shades with a fabric covering over the cords are not being recalled. This recall includes two styles of shades – Thermal Sailcloth and Matchstick Bamboo roman Shades – all have a small sewn-in label on the back that reads “home, Made in China.” The shades measure about 64 inches long. The widths of the thermal shades are 23, 27, 31 and 35 inches and were sold in coffee, red, ivory and tan. The widths of the Matchstick roman shades are 23, 27, 31, 35 and 36 inches and are brown.
