CPSC, DeWalt Announce Recall to Repair Framing Saws
WASHINGTON, D.C. - In cooperation with the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC), DeWalt Industrial Tool Co., of Hampstead, Md., is recalling about 25,000 framing saws. The saw's lower blade guard can fail to fully close during use, leaving the blade exposed and presenting a risk of laceration.DeWalt is aware of 15 reports of the saw's lower blade guard failing to fully close. Of these incidents, there have been eight reports of lacerations, with at least three cases requiring stitches.
These are DeWalt 7 1/4-inch framing saws have model number DW378G, which is located on a black name plate on the side of the saw. These saws have date codes 9813F through 9820F, located on the bottom of the saw below the power cord. The saws are yellow with black accents and have a silver-colored blade guard. "DEWALT" is written on the blade guard.
Major home centers and hardware stores, as well as local hardware stores, sold these saws nationwide from May 1998 through September 1998 for between $149 and $175.
Consumers should immediately stop using these framing saws and take them to a DeWalt/Black & Decker service center for a free repair. To locate the nearest service center or for more information, consumers should call DeWalt toll-free at (888) 839-3559 between 8 a.m. and 4:30 p.m. EST Monday through Friday.
Saws with date codes ending with a letter "X" have already been repaired.
