CPSC, Kawasaki Motors Corp. U.S.A. Announce Recall of All-Terrain Vehicles

The following product safety recall was voluntarily conducted by the firm in cooperation with the CPSC. Consumers should stop using the product immediately unless otherwise instructed.

Product: Kawasaki 2005 model year Brute Force ATVs

Units: About 21,900

Distributor: Kawasaki Motors Corp., U.S.A., of Irvine, Calif.

Hazard: Tie rod separation caused by either wear or severe impact can occur during operation, causing the front wheel to separate from the steering control. Separation of the tie rod can cause the rider to lose control of the ATV, resulting in a serious injury or death to the rider.

Incidents/Injuries: Kawasaki has received about 140 reports of tie rod problems, resulting in four reports of injuries.

Description: The recall involves Kawasaki 2005 model year KVF750-A1 and KVF750-B1 Brute Force ATVs. These models are 750cc V-twin All Terrain Vehicles available in Red, Green, Yellow, and Camouflage colorings. They have "Kawasaki" and "Brute Force" on the sides of the bodywork below the handlebars, and "V-Twin 750" on the sides of the rear fenders.

Sold by: Kawasaki dealers nationwide from June 2004 through November 2005 for between $7,600 and $7,900.

What to Do: Consumers with recalled ATVs were sent direct notice from Kawasaki. Consumers should stop using these ATVs immediately and contact a local Kawasaki dealer to schedule an appointment for a free repair.
