CPSC, WaveCrest Laboratories LLC Announce Recall of Electric Bicycles

The following product safety recall was conducted voluntarily by the firm in cooperation with the CPSC. Customers should stop using the product immediately unless otherwise instructed.

Name of Product: TidalForce S-750 High Performance Electric Bicycles

Units: 110

Manufacturer: WaveCrest Laboratories LLC, of Dulles, VA.

Hazard: The front and/or rear wheel can collapse, causing the rider to fall and suffer injuries.

Incidents/Injuries: No incidents or injuries reported.

Description: The recall involves specific front and rear wheels of TidalForce S-750 High Performance Electric Bicycles. The electric bicycle can travel at speeds of up to 20 miles per hour. The bicycle frame comes in either Candy Apple Red or Silver Satin and has a "TidalForce" sticker on the down tube and an "S-750 High Performance Electric Bicycle" sticker on the top tube. The front wheel assembly contains the battery and the rear wheel assembly contains the motor. A bicycle identification number is located on a white bar coded sticker, on the seat tube of the frame, directly above the front derailleur clamp. Sold at: Authorized TidalForce High Performance Electric Bicycle dealers nationwide between May 2005 and June 2005 for about $2,500.

Remedy: Consumers should stop riding the electric bicycle immediately and contact WaveCrest Laboratories if they purchased an electric bicycle with affected wheels. WaveCrest Laboratories will replace affected wheels at no cost to the consumer.
