March 30, 2016 Black Diamond Recalls to Inspect Carabiners Due to Fall Hazard

This recall involves 16 models of Black Diamond brand carabiners with manufacturing date codes between 4350 and 6018. "Black Diamond" or the Black Diamond logo is printed on the front of the carabiners. The manufacturing date code is printed on the side of the carabiners. All carabiner colors are included in the recall. They were sold individually or as part of a climbing gear set. August 26, 2015 CAMP USA Recalls Tour Nanotech Crampons Due to Fall Hazard

This recall affects all Tour Nanotech Automatic and Semi-Automatic crampons. Both crampons are made of steel plates that attach to boots for ice climbing. The Tour Nanotech Automatic has a red heel bail with a gray strap that fastens around the ankle. The Tour Nanotech Semi-Automatic has a red toe strap at the front of the crampon and a red heel bail at the back. A gray strap is connected to both heel bails and fastens around the boot. August 26, 2015 CAMP USA Recalls Blade Runner Crampons Due to Fall Hazard

This recall involves all Cassin Blade Runner and Blade Runner Alpine crampons. Crampons are used for ice climbing and attach to footwear allowing the front points of the crampon to cut into the snow or ice. The Blade Runner crampons have two ice front points and the Blade Runner Alpine crampons have two snow front points. "Sandvik Nanoflex" is printed on a rubber label attached to the gray nylon ankle strap. "Cassin" and "Blade Runner" are stamped on the orange traction plate on the foot of the crampon. February 27, 2014 Mammut Recalls Crevasse Rescue Devices Due to Risk of Injury

The recall involves Mammut's RescYou crevasse rescue devices with batch numbers 12-12 and 03-13. The crevasse rescue devices are pulley systems used for ski mountaineering and mountain climbing to lift a skier or climber who has fallen into a crevasse. The rescue device consists of blue- and silver-finished mechanical ascenders, each using a cam that grabs a lifting rope, allowing the rope to slide only in one direction. The ascenders are connected by an orange rope threaded through pulleys. "MAMMUT RESCYOU" and the batch number are printed in white on the side of the blue ascender. Read more.


February 20, 2014 Sterling Rope Company Recalls Sewn Cords Due to Fall Hazard

This recall involves four models of Sterling Rope's sewn cords which include the 8mm Aztek (AZ) Sewn Bound Loop Prusik, Aztek (AZ) Elite 8mm Edge Restraint, 8mm PER Sewn Eye and the 8mm Accessory Cord Sewn Eye. Sterling Rope products have the production lot number in two places. The product number and lot number are printed on the barcode label attached to the Care, Use and Retirement document, which comes with every product. The lot number is also printed on the shrink tube label on the sewn portion of the Prusik, edge restraint or sewn eye. February 27, 2013 Liberty Mountain Recalls Mountain Climbing Lanyards Due to Risk of Serious Injury

This recall involves Easy Go XP Lock Via Ferrata Lanyards used for shock absorption on Via Ferrata mountain climbing routes. The lanyard has two elasticized webbing branches with self-locking carabiners at each end. Recalled units can be identified by the elasticized webbing. "EASY GO XP LOCK" is printed on a white tag sewn into the zipper pouch.

This recall involves two models of Porter Athletic climbing ropes.Model number 00118 is a white soft dacron rope with vinyl boot end sold in 12’, 16’, 20’ and 24’ lengths. November 10, 2011 Joss Rock Climbing Cam Units Recalled by Sierra Trading Post Due to a Fall Hazard; Sold Exclusively by Sierra Trading Post

The Joss Cam is a mechanical device placed in the crack of a rock to support a climber's weight. The Cam is operated by a trigger that retracts the aluminum lobes, allowing the device to be placed and secured in the crack of a rock. A cable is attached to the device with a heavy duty nylon sling attached to the end of the cable. Joss Cams come in eight sizes and each Cam is marked with the size (.5 to 4). The sling on the end features solid horizontal blocks of color (yellow, orange, purple, red, green and blue) indicating size. The "Cassin" logo is also printed on a tag attached to the sling. August 30, 2011 Petzl America Recalls Belay Devices Due to Fall Hazard

The GRIGRI 2 belay device is used by rock climbers to control the climber's safety rope during a fall or while being lowered on the rope. The first five digits of the serial numbers of devices affected by this recall range from 10326 to 11136. The serial number is engraved on the body of the product underneath and protected by the folded handle. The belay devices are 4 inches in length and 2 inches in width, and come in grey, blue, and orange colors. Read more.
