April 21, 2011 Photon Climbing Carabiners and Quickdraws Recalled Due to Risk of Injury

The Photon model carabiners are used by climbers as connectors and are sold individually or as components of the Photon Express and Mach Express quickdraw used as extenders to anchor a climber. The carabiners were sold in a variety of colors including green, yellow, silver and brown. The quickdraws use a white or black fabric strap with green, yellow or gray stitching and Photon carabiners attached at each end. Read more.


January 5, 2011 Avalung Backpacks Recalled by Black Diamond Equipment Due to Suffocation Hazard

This recall involves the following Black Diamond 2010 Avalung backpacks (see chart below). These backpacks have an air intake system that the company states extracts air from the snow, allowing the victim of an avalanche to breathe while buried under the snow. The model name and color are printed on the side of the backpack. The PO number is printed on a white label inside the backpack. Read more.


October 27, 2010 Hunter Safety System Recalls Carabiners Due to Fall Hazard

The 2010 Year HSS Ultra-Lite carabiners were supplied with the HSS-300 Ultra-Lite full body climbing safety harness. The carabiners are black with a pin sticking out of the gate. They have "CB20101" stamped on the side opposite the gate. Read more.


July 14, 2010 Muddy Outdoors Recalls Climbing Sticks Due to Fall Hazard

The recalled climbing sticks are used for climbing a tree and include 2009 year Model 70301 - Muddy Outdoors climbing stick (a 20 inch single climbing stick) and 2009 year Model 70304 - Muddy Outdoors climbing stick (4 pack of 20-inch climbing sticks). The year and model number is printed on a label on the front of the main vertical frame of the climbing stick just below the two cam locs. Read more.


July 29, 2008 New England Ropes Recalls Climbing Lines Due to Fall Hazard

Two types of climbing ropes have been included in this recall, the Maxim Apogee 9.1mm and Maxim Pinnacle 9.5mm. The Maxim Apogee 9.1mm is a 48 carrier climbing rope. The colors are yellow and black, and red and yellow. The model numbers are 3411-91 and 3415-91, with date codes 060801 thru 080601. The UPC codes are: 75396312299, 75396312298, 75396312301, and 75396312300. The Maxim Pinnacle 9.5mm is a blue 48 carrier climbing rope. The Model number is 3403-95, with date codes 070201 thru 080601. The UPC codes are 75396312292 and 75396312293. The date codes and the UPC codes are on the original packaging. Read more.


December 12, 2006 Liberty Mountain Recalls Climbing Harnesses Due to Fall Hazard

The sit harnesses are worn around climber's waist and legs and attach to climbing ropes to protect climbers from falling. The harnesses have three buckles including one on the waist belt and one on each leg loop. "Edelweiss" is printed on the waist belt. Only harnesses using the para buckle system are included in this recall. Para buckle harnesses have a single bar installed in the center of each of the three buckles. Read more.


October 18, 2006 Petzl America Recalls Climbing Equipment Due to Fall Hazard

The recall involves the M34 BL Am'D Ball-Lock and M36 BL William Ball Lock carabiners with metal locking sleeves. Carabiners with batch number between 06076 and 06178 are included in the recall. The batch number is engraved on the spine of the carabiner. The recall does not include Ball Lock carabiners having a plastic locking sleeve. Read more.



June 9, 2006 Extreme Engineering Recalls Wall Climbing Cable Assemblies Due to Fall Hazard

These cable assemblies are used by wall climbers in auto-belay and auto-zip devices to prevent a climber from free-falling. The cable assemblies are made up of a stainless steel cable eye, and 1/4-inch galvanized wire rope. The recalled cable assemblies have a date codes 1-06, 2-06, or 3-06 etched onto the cable eye.
