CPSC, Sportcraft Announce Recall of Tredex Treadmills
The following product safety recall was conducted voluntarily by the firm in cooperation with the CPSC. Consumers should stop using the product immediately unless otherwise instructed.
Name of Product: Tredex 10.0 treadmill
Units: 320
Importer/Distributor: Sportcraft Ltd., of Mt. Olive, N.J.
Hazard: The treadmill's circuitry can overheat, causing it to unexpectedly accelerate during use. When this happens, the user can fall.
Incidents/Injuries: Sportcraft received nine reports of unexpected acceleration, including five reports of injuries. The injuries included sprains to the back, shoulder and knees, and cuts and abrasions to various parts of the body.
Description: The treadmill measures 62 inches high, 79 inches long, and 35 inches wide. It is gray and has a gray control panel. The name "Tredex 10.0" appears on the control console of the treadmill and on the motor cover of the treadmill. This recall includes only the Tredex 10.0 model treadmill.
Sold by: Dick's Sporting Goods nationwide from January 2004 through March 2004 for between $500 and $1400.
Manufactured In: China.
Remedy: Stop using the Tredex 10.0 treadmill immediately and contact Sportcraft for a full refund or a replacement Sportcraft treadmill.
