Name of Product: Ameristep Patriot and Outfitter Hang-on Tree Stands Units: About 6,700 Manufacturer: Primal Vantage Company Inc., of Randolph, N.J. Distributor: Ameristep Inc., of Clio, Mich. Hazard: The j-hook attachment of the tree strap can fail, which can cause the tree stand to collapse. Consumers using these stands could fall and suffer serious injuries or death. Incidents/Injuries: Primal Vantage Company Inc. has received three reports of j-hook failures. No injuries have been reported. Description: The recall involves two models of tree stands: the Ameristep Patriot Hang-On Tree Stand has model number 7300, and the Outfitter Hang-On Tree Stand has model number 7310. These products are fixed-position, strap-on tree stands. The UPC number of the model 7300 is 769524703001. The UPC number of model 7310 is 769524703100. The model number and UPC are not written on the tree stands, but can be found on the packaging. Sold at: Hunting and outdoor stores nationwide and by Web retailers and in catalogs from April 2004 through December 2005 for between $130 and $150. These camming anchors or "Alien Cams" are devices used as both a precautionary measure to stop a climber in the event of falls, or it is used to actually support the climber. Climbers insert the device into cracks or crevasses in rock and it grips the sides of the crack. The recalled units are marked with a small center punch dimple at the base of the round ball where the axle goes through the cable eye. They have production dates, from November 2004 (written as 1104) through December 2005 (written as 1205), which can be found on the bottom of the handle puller. Read more.
Both models of avalanche transceivers are plastic and measure 5.5-inches by 2.5-inches by 1-inch. The M1 has a navy blue body and a yellow volume control switch. The M2 avalanche transceiver comes in two colors: glacier white (grey) with a red volume control switch, and orange with a grey volume control switch. Name of Product: Ameristep Hang-on Treestands. Units: About 480. Manufacturer: Tahsin Industrial Corp. USA, of Randolph, N.J. Hazard: The treestand's bracket can bend if not secured properly by a chain and if weight is applied. This can cause the chain to disengage from the stand, the stand to separate from the tree and the user to fall and suffer serious injuries. Incidents/Injuries: Tahsin received one report in which a person fell from an unknown elevation while using the treestand. Description: The recalled treestand is the Ameristep Model 9203 Hang-on of the Grizzly Treestand Line. The product is a steel fixed-position treestand that uses a steel chain for attachment to trees and has a camouflage-covered seat. Sold At: Kame's Sports Center, Kentucky Lake Outdoors, Sportsmen Center, and North Sylva Company stores nationwide from July 2004 through June 2005 for between $36 and $50. Manufactured in: China. The recalled Shakespeare® brand fishing kits feature the following characters: TAZ® (Tazmanian Devil®), Tweety®, Mucha Lucha® and Spider-Man®. Other fishing kits feature Fishing Heroes™, sold with a silver-colored badge; Kids Kits™, sold with tackle boxes; and Shark™ and Dolphin™ Kits, which have reels in the shape of a shark or dolphin. The fishing kits have brightly colored red and yellow fishing rods, and "Shakespeare" is written on the reels. Fishing kits with purple, blue and pink rods are not included in this recall. Two types of descenders, which are used in recreational wall climbing, are included in this recall: Redpoint and Auto-Belay descenders. The descenders consist of a round metal housing into which a retractable red strap (Redpoint) or steel cable (Auto-Belay) is coiled. The front of each descender's round metal housing includes a red label (Redpoint) or green label (Auto-Belay) with the name of the product. A label on the back of the product's housing includes the descender's date of manufacture, last service date, and product number. Redpoint Descenders are identified with product numbers 10024873, 10027646 or 10027798. Auto-Belay Descenders are identified with the product number 10021806. Redpoint Descenders manufactured or serviced from August 27, 2004 through April 6, 2005 are included in the recall. The recalled fishing poles are brightly colored and feature pictures of the following cartoon characters on the reels: from Nickelodeon's SpongeBob Squarepants® are SpongeBob, Patrick Star and Sandy Cheeks; Nick Jr.'s Dora the Explorer®; Disney's Tigger; and the cast of Nickelodeon's Rocket Power®. "ZEBCO®" and "Floating Catch ‘Em Kit™" are written on the handles of these poles with the exception of the Rocket Power poles. The Rocket Power poles have a two-piece rod, were sold with sunglasses and "Rocket Power" is written on the rod. Newer fishing poles with a date code on the rod (near the handle) are not included in the recall.
